August 29, 1915: Cinema legend Ingrid Bergman is born in Stockholm, Sweden.
Ingrid Bergman is famed not only for her beauty but for her acting ability- she was a seven-time nominee at the Academy Awards, winning three. Wildly popular in the 40’s, when the Golden Age of Hollywood was in full swing, she starred, most notably, 1942’s Casablanca opposite Humphrey Bogart, as well as three Hitchcock films: Spellbound, Notorious, and Under Capricorn.
She died (on her birthday) in 1982, but the quinitilingual actress of the screen and stage is still regarded as one of the greatest women to have ever worked in Hollywood. In the American Film Institute’s 1999 "100 Years… 100 Stars" list, Bergman, she ranks at number four ahead of such legends as Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Shirley Temple, Judy Garland, Vivian Leigh, and many others.
